Capture and decode a fixed-code remote with the ZeroTrace Echo.
Your First Capture
The quickest way to see Echo work is to capture a simple fixed-code remote, a cheap 433 MHz gate or socket fob is ideal.
- Set the frequency
Echo starts on 433.92 MHz, the right frequency for most European and hobby remotes. Leave it unless you know your target uses another frequency in the 410-450 MHz band.
- Start a capture
In the app, start a sub-GHz capture. Echo begins listening for radio bursts.
- Press the remote
Hold your remote near Echo and press its button a few times. Repeated presses help Echo build confidence in the result.
- Read the decode
Stop the capture. Echo works out what it heard: a fixed-code fob comes back as a named protocol (for example EV1527 or PT2262) with its code; a rolling-code fob comes back identified, with its serial and button shown, but the changing security part left untouched.
- Save it
Save the capture to the on-device signal library if you want to inspect or replay it later.
Use the frequency hunter to find the strongest channel, or autotune to lock onto an older, drifted fob. If you see activity but no named protocol, the signal may be a rolling-code remote or an encoding Echo does not support, see Troubleshooting.
Replaying a captured signal refuses any rolling-code remote. Only replay against equipment you own or are authorized to test. See Safety & Legal.
