Activation
Activate a ZeroTrace device once with its license key, stored on the device itself so it stays licensed forever.
Each ZeroTrace device activates once with a license key. The key is written to the device's own flash, so the device stays licensed forever, even if you delete the app or re-pair from a brand-new phone.
Activating a device
After pairing, the app prompts for the license key that shipped with your unit. Three ways to enter it:

| Paste from clipboard | Paste a key you copied from your order or dashboard. |
Once accepted, the key is stored on the device flash. Activation is a one-time step per device.
The license lives on the device, not the phone. Delete the app, switch phones, or re-pair, the device is still licensed. There is no account to sign in to, the hardware key is the credential.
If a key is rejected
A rejected key returns a plain-English reason rather than a cryptic code, for example:
- Wrong device, the key belongs to a different unit.
- Expired, the key is no longer valid.
- Already used, the key has been activated on another device.
A one-tap action copies a redacted diagnostic you can send to support. As with the debug log, the diagnostic strips identifiers and secrets first, so you are never handing over anything sensitive.
