ZeroTrace Mobile
Firmware Updates
Flash and update device firmware over the air, straight from the app over Bluetooth LE.
Over-the-air firmware updates
You update a ZeroTrace device's firmware directly from the app, over Bluetooth LE. No cable, no desktop flashing tool, no putting the device into a special mode by hand. The app checks what firmware is available for the connected device and walks you through the update.
- Open the device's firmware screen
Connect the device, then open its firmware or updates screen in the app.
- Check for an update
The app compares the device's current firmware against what is available and tells you if a newer version exists.
- Start the update
Begin the update. The transfer moves through four phases, downloading the firmware image, transferring it to the device in chunks over Bluetooth, verifying it on-device, and rebooting into it. Keep the app open and the device nearby and powered for all four.
- Let it verify and reboot
The app sends periodic keep-alive traffic during the transfer so the BLE connection doesn't idle out mid-update. Progress is shown throughout, and on iPhone it appears as a Live Activity so you can watch it from the lock screen without keeping the app in the foreground.
A firmware update writes new software to the device. Don't power it off, don't walk out of Bluetooth range, and don't close the app until the app reports the update finished. An interrupted update can leave a device needing to be re-flashed.
The app itself updates through the App Store and Google Play like any other app. Firmware updates, described here, are separate, they update the software running on your ZeroTrace hardware.
