Authorized-use requirements and handling notes for the USBLogger.
Recording keystrokes is regulated
Recording what someone types can capture passwords, messages, and other private information. In most jurisdictions, doing so without the informed consent of the person and the owner of the equipment is illegal. Use the USBLogger only where you have clear authority to do so.
Authorized use
The USBLogger is intended for:
- Security research and penetration testing under a written engagement or scope
- IT and security training in a controlled lab
- Testing on hardware you own
It is not intended for covert surveillance of people, monitoring employees or family members without consent, or any use prohibited by local law. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you.
Data responsibility
- Anything the device records may include sensitive input. Treat the live view as confidential.
- The USBLogger keeps session activity in device memory and clears it on power loss; it does not upload anything. Copy out only what your engagement permits, store it securely, and dispose of it appropriately.
Handling
- The board ships without a case. Handle it by the edges and keep it clear of metal surfaces that could short it.
- Power comes from the host's USB port; do not modify the device.
