Match the recorded text to the keyboard's layout, and calibrate unusual layouts.
A keyboard sends the same signals regardless of the language printed on its keys — the layout decides which character each key produces. The USBLogger applies the layout you choose so the recorded text reads as it was typed.
Built-in layouts
The USBLogger ships with a broad set of built-in layouts (around two dozen), including common ones such as:
- US English, UK English
- German (Germany and Switzerland)
- French, Spanish, Italian
- Russian, Arabic, Japanese, Simplified Chinese
Select the layout that matches the keyboard under test. If none is selected, the device defaults to US English.
If the selected layout does not match the keyboard, symbols and accented characters will be recorded incorrectly even though letters and digits usually look right. Pick the matching layout before you rely on the text.
Calibration
For a keyboard that none of the built-in layouts covers, run calibration:
- Start calibration
Open the calibration section of the interface and begin the guided run.
- Type the prompted characters
The device asks you to type a short, fixed set of characters (letters, digits, and common symbols) once each, on the keyboard being tested.
- Save the result
The USBLogger builds a custom mapping from what you typed and stores it on the device. From then on it uses that mapping to produce readable text for this keyboard.
A saved calibration stays on the device until you replace it, so you only need to do this once per unusual keyboard.
