ZeroTrace HID & Dongle
Firmware Updates
How ZeroTrace HID devices update their firmware over the air from the app.
Firmware Updates
ZeroTrace HID devices update their own firmware over the air, straight from the ZeroTrace app over Bluetooth LE. There is no cable, no flashing tool and no computer required for a normal update.
How an update works
The app sends the new firmware to the device in pieces. Before the device switches over, it checks the firmware is intact and correct for that device, so a corrupted or mismatched image is refused rather than installed. Once verified, the device switches to the new firmware and restarts.
On the standard boards and the Dongle, the device keeps two firmware slots: the update is written to the spare slot and the device only switches once it is complete and verified. This means an interrupted update does not leave the device unable to start, it simply keeps running the firmware it already had.
Each device only installs firmware built for its own model. This prevents loading the wrong image onto a device. If an update will not apply, check you are updating the right device model in the app.
Firmware updates are part of your one-time purchase, there is no update subscription. See Licensing.
