ZeroTrace AirLeak Pro

Power & Battery

AirLeak Pro's 18650 rechargeable cell, USB-C charging, and how power is managed.

Power & battery

AirLeak Pro runs from a single 18650 rechargeable cell in an on-board holder, and charges over USB-C. It can also run directly from USB while it charges.

Which cell to buy

Fit a standard 18650 lithium-ion cell (nominal 3.7 V). A protected, flat-or-button-top cell from a reputable brand is recommended, avoid unbranded, swollen, or damaged cells. The Pro holds one cell; capacity (mAh) only affects how long it runs, not whether it fits.

The 18650 cell is user-supplied

AirLeak Pro ships without a cell. Drop a standard 18650 lithium-ion cell into the holder, matching the + and − printed on the board next to the holder — the flat, spring-loaded end is negative and the button end is positive. The spring contact only makes good contact when the cell is the right way round.

Check polarity against the board

Always seat the cell to the +/− marked on the holder, not from memory. Inserting a cell backwards can damage the device. If the board and cell markings ever disagree, trust the board silkscreen.

Charging and running at once

The on-board charger includes a power path, so AirLeak Pro can run and charge at the same time and switch between USB power and the battery without interrupting a scan. Plug into USB during a long stationary survey and the device keeps running while it tops up.

Battery level in the app

The app shows the current battery level so you can plan a session. When you finish, the slide switch cuts power completely, there is no background drain.

For wardriving, power from the car

On a driving survey, run AirLeak Pro from a USB car charger. It draws from USB and keeps the cell topped up, so a long route never runs the battery down.
