Settings
The settings you can change in the app, automation rules, firmware updates and licensing.
You configure Echo entirely from the ZeroTrace app. The settings below are the ones you will change day to day.
Device settings
- Device name
- The friendly name Echo shows when pairing. Random on first start-up; change it to anything you like.
- Default frequency
- The frequency Echo starts on (433.92 MHz by default).
- Transmit power
- How strongly Echo sends when replaying a fixed-code signal.
- Button action
- What the standalone button does, send a saved signal, or learn and play. See Standalone Button.
- Armed signal
- Which saved signal the button sends.
- Status light
- How the colour status light behaves.
- Link identity
- The name and optional shared key for the Echo-to-Echo link.
Automation rules
Echo can run simple if-this-then-that rules you build in the app. A rule watches for something, an event, a signal strength, or a schedule, and takes an action when it happens.
- Always
- Fires on the next matching event, useful for a simple always-on action
- A specific protocol
- Fires when a capture matches a chosen fixed-code protocol
- Signal strength above a threshold
- Fires when a received signal is stronger than the level you set
- A sensor field compared to a value
- Fires when a named sensor field (e.g. a temperature or a battery flag) crosses the value you set, using ≥, ≤ or =
- A defense alert
- Fires when one of the four counter-surveillance detectors raises an alert
- A schedule
- Fires repeatedly on an interval you choose
- Notify
- Push an alert to your phone
- Set the status light
- Change the colour indicator
- Start a capture
- Begin listening automatically
- Send a saved signal
- Transmit a fixed-code signal from the library (rolling-code signals are refused)
- Send a link message
- Message another Echo over the Echo-to-Echo link
- "Alert me if a jammer shows up while I'm out" — trigger: defense alert (jamming); action: notify.
- "Flash the light red on any captured-remote hit" — trigger: defense alert (captured-remote); action: set status light.
- "Open the gate automatically at a strong, known signal" — trigger: signal strength above a threshold on a chosen fixed-code protocol; action: send a saved signal.
- "Check in with a paired Echo every ten minutes" — trigger: schedule; action: send a link message.
Every rule you build reduces to one trigger and one action, chain more elaborate behaviour by creating several rules.
Rules are managed entirely in the app, create, edit, enable and delete them as you like.
Using Echo from a computer
Echo can also be driven from the ZeroTrace desktop app over USB-C. You turn this mode on from the app; the next time Echo restarts, it connects over the USB cable instead of Bluetooth. This is handy for longer sessions at a desk.
Firmware updates
Echo updates its own firmware over the air from the app, no cable or special tools needed. Updates are delivered safely so a unit only ever accepts its own correct firmware.
Licensing
Most capture and decode features need an active license, tied to your specific device. You activate it by scanning a QR code in the app. See Licensing.
