Echo is a measurement and research instrument. Most of what it does, capturing, decoding, identifying and detecting, only listens. A few features transmit, and those carry real legal weight.
What Echo will not do
- It never breaks rolling-code security. Rolling remotes (KeeLoq, Somfy, Security+ and others) are captured and identified only, never decrypted, and every transmitting feature refuses them. See Rolling-code.
- It has no jammer. The jamming feature detects jamming, it cannot produce it. See RF counter-surveillance.
Radio law
The sub-GHz bands Echo uses are regulated. Permitted power, duty cycle and use vary by country. Transmitting on a frequency or at a power that is not allowed where you are can be an offence even against your own equipment. Know and follow the rules of your country.
Privacy
Capturing other people's remotes, sensors or telemetry, and mapping where devices are heard while wardriving, can touch on privacy law. Only observe traffic you are entitled to observe.
