Activation per product
How you activate each kind of ZeroTrace product, hardware devices through the mobile app, desktop software in-app, and where Desktop differs.

Activation looks slightly different depending on the kind of product, but the model is the same everywhere (see How licensing works). Here is the exact step for each.
HID, AirLeak, AirLeak Pro, and Echo activate through the ZeroTrace mobile app over Bluetooth.
- Pair and connect the device, see Pairing and auto-detect. The license is written to the device you are connected to.
- Open the device's license or activation screen in the app.
- Provide your license, by scanning the license QR code that came with your device or order, or by entering the key. The key is treated as sensitive; it is stored securely and never shown back in plain text.
- The device validates the key and switches to its licensed level. The licensed features become available immediately.

OSINT and Proxy are licensed desktop apps. You activate inside the app.
- The first time you open the app, you activate it with your license.
- The app verifies the license and unlocks its tool library.
- The workbench remembers it, so you can get straight to work each time you open the app.
Activation ties the license to the machine you are using. An OSINT license and a Proxy license are separate licenses, even though the two apps share a shell, each one unlocks its own app. Per-app detail: OSINT licensing, Proxy licensing.
ZeroTrace Desktop currently has no activation step.
It opens ready to use, with no sign-in, no key, and no license gate. This is different from the OSINT and Proxy software tools, which are licensed, and from hardware devices, where a license unlocks the advanced features.

When a key is rejected
If a license will not activate, the product tells you why in plain terms rather than a cryptic code, for example a key issued for a different device or machine, a key that is expired or invalid, or one the licensing check could not reach right now. Check that you are activating the right unit or computer with the right key, and try again. For the desktop software's full list of license states, see the OSINT or Proxy licensing page.
