"Fox hunting" is the radio term for tracking a hidden transmitter, the fox, to its physical location. AirLeak Pro's fox-hunt tool turns the device into a direction finder so you can walk a signal down to its source, on either radio.
What it is for
In a sanctioned engagement, fox hunt is how you answer where is it? — where is the rogue access point broadcasting on the client's floor, where is the unknown item tracker that follow-me detection flagged, where is the device behind an interference complaint. It complements the passive survey, which tells you something is present, by helping you physically find it.
The workflow
Choose the target from whatever the passive survey or a follow-me alert already found — a specific network by its address, or a specific Bluetooth device by its identity. Fox hunt locks onto that one signal and ignores everything else, so the reading you get back is unambiguous.
Once locked, the app shows a live signal reading that updates as you move. Turning in place while stationary sweeps a rough bearing; the direction where the reading is strongest is your first heading toward the source.
Walk toward that heading, pause, and re-read. The reading rises as you close in and falls as you move away, so each stop-and-read either confirms your heading or corrects it. Repeating this narrows your position down to the room or fixture the transmitter is actually in.
Result: the physical location of a specific transmitter, so you can identify and deal with it.
