Licensing & Activation
Unlock a device's licensed features by scanning its license QR code in the app.
Activation
Most ZeroTrace devices ship with their advanced capture and analysis features behind a license. A device runs in a limited public state until it is activated, once activated it unlocks its licensed features. Activation is a one-time step you do in the app.
Connect the device
Pair and connect the device first, see Pairing. Activation is written to the device you are connected to.
Open activation
Go to the device's license or activation screen in the app.
Scan your license QR
Point the camera at the license QR code that came with your device or order. The app reads the key and sends it to the device. The key is treated as sensitive, it is stored securely and never shown back in plain text.
Confirm the unlock
The device validates the key and switches to its licensed state. The licensed features become available immediately.
How licensing works
Licensing is buy-once with lifetime updates, there are no subscriptions. A license is tied to the device it activates. Keys are held in your phone's secure storage and on the device itself, so once activated a device keeps its licensed state, you do not need to re-scan every time you connect, even across a reinstall of the app, since the device itself remembers it is licensed.
What activation looks like per family
Activation is the same QR-scan flow on every device. What it unlocks is defined by that device's own firmware, exactly which screens sit behind Public versus Licensed differs by family, see the relevant device guide and that family's own documentation section for the specific split. In every case, Public is enough to connect, pair and see the device is working; Licensed is what opens its full feature set.
